- They are really, really nervous - and incredibly competitive," says a show insider.
"None of them will look at the trophy, let alone touch it. Kyran thinks it's tempting fate.
They all want to win so badly. It's going to be a fantastic show."
To triumph, they'll probably have to win over acid-tongued judge Jason Gardiner, who believes the Dancing On Ice crown belongs to Kyran - the 1-8 on favourite - while Clare will be tonight's runner-up and Duncan will trail in third.
Blunt Jason describes how Kyran is talented but lacks grace, Duncan is using his good looks to bag votes and Clare's routines leave him cold.
He explains: "Kyran hasn't put a foot wrong. He may lack grace as a skater but I couldn't take my eyes off him last week - and that's a sign of how far he has come.
"Duncan is a great showman but lacks the ability of the other two and has concentrated on popularity - by using his puppy-dog eyes.
"Clare made a stunning start to the series but has lost some of her spark.
"She became so determined to get her routines right that she lost her sense of humour and endearing vulnerability. That's why her routines can leave me cold."
Luckily, the ever-diplomatic Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have more soothing words to calm the contestants' jangled nerves.
Christopher says: "Jayne and I had a long discussion and we give each finalist a 33-and-athird per cent chance of winning. They all have strengths and weaknesses.
Jayne concludes: "The final is wide open. And although the judges give their opinions, the king or queen will be crowned by the voting public."
Kyran, Duncan and Clare will first battle it out to make it through to the results show, when just two celebs will go head-to-head performing Jayne and Christopher's legendary Bolero routine before finally being crowned king or queen of the ice.
First up comes the flying, then the finalists will attempt to impress both the judges and the viewing public with their favourite routines from the series.
Kyran will aim to dazzle to Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars, Clare hopes to sparkle to Kelly Clarkson's Since You've Been Gone and Duncan wants to delight to the Gypsy Kings' Bamboleo. And, as a special treat for viewers, their mentors and coaches Jayne and Christopher will also take to the ice and "fly" for the first time ever in the UK.
So as the skating stars limbered up for the night of their lives, the Daily Mirror went behind the scenes and asked each contestant to relive their highs and lows of the series and what it will mean if they win - or lose - tonight...
Judge Jason backs Kyran but Torvill and Dean reckon it's wide open..
DUNCAN JAMES 10-1
HIGH POINT: Reaching the final. Whatever the outcome I can't help feeling proud of myself.
LOW POINT: Going up against Lisa Scott-Lee in the skate-off a few weeks ago. We're good friends and I think she deserved to be in the final.
WINNING WILL MEAN: For me it was about getting as far as I could in the competition. Coming first, second or third is a massive achievement.
LOSING WILL MEAN: There isn't a loser now. Everyone should be proud of themselves.
WORST INJURY: My rib, it's still really painful. But I have to put the injuries aside and make sure I do the best I can.
GLACIAL GLITCH: It's always so nerve wracking that all of my performances have had glitches in them - fortunately nothing too noticeable!
FAMOUS FANS: Tara Palmer-Tomkinson managed to sneak out a message congratulating me for getting into the final even though she's in the Fame Academy house.
FAVOURITE OUTFIT: The Rhinestone Cowboy outfit was really cool and I liked the pale blue one I wore on the first show.
WORST OUTFIT: The Bamboleo outfit. But I'm wearing it again in the final as that is mine and Maria's favourite routine.
SIGNATURE MOVE: Sliding up and down the judge's table to Reet Petite - Maria and I choreographed that ourselves.
I'D RATHER BE: Tucked up in bed! I feel like I need a week's sleep.
WHO I FANCY MOST: I don't fancy anyone, but I adore my skating partner Maria - she says I remind her of her five-year-old son.
