ONE of Yorkshire’s biggest club nights has undergone a major overhaul.
Gatecrasher – one of Britain’s best-known clubbing brands – has
revamped its Leeds venue on New Briggate.

After a £500,000 refurbishment, Gatecrasher Seven opened on Friday
with a new look and two distinct clubbing rooms to suit events of
different styles.

Opening hours have also been extended to meet demand – revellers can now drink until 10am at the bar.

Both floors of the club have been revamped, with the downstairs room undergoing a full overhaul and being re-branded as BED.

As well as being part of the main Gatecrasher Seven venue, BED will
be used as a self-contained 400 capacity space with its own separate
entrance, toilets, DJ booths and bars.

With its stylish sunken booths – complete with designer leather
furniture – the super cool space will be available for corporate hire
and private parties and will house separate ‘niche’ nights on Sundays,
Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Simon Raine, Gatecrasher founder, said: “The very essence of club
culture and nightclubs means that they constantly need to evolve in
terms of design, aesthetics and allure.

“Following a turbulent two years in Leeds, we have listened to the audience and made changes to suit.”

As part of its relaunch, Gatecrasher Seven has devised a new programme of club nights.

On the first Saturday of every month, it will host Hed Kandi. The
club will have a ‘wonderland’ theme with revellers dancing to sexy
disco dance sounds.

On the second Saturday of the month, fans of classic house can take
a trip back in time with Retro Heaven. Regular guest DJs will include
Danny Rampling, Daniele Davoli, K-Klass, Graeme Park, Allister
Whitehead and Ian Ossia.

The third Saturday of each month will feature the majestic
Speedqueen night. The night was born in Leeds and is famed for the
friendly atmosphere and mix of gay and straight clubbers. This monthly
event – starting on May 18 – offers Speedqueen’s best female DJs – Miss
Melodie, Alice Bailey and Adele – glamorous drag queens, live
percussionists and performance art. There will be a mix of funky house
in the main room and 60s classics in the downstairs space.

The fourth Saturday of every month is one for electro fans. Leeds
Loves Electro aims to provide what has so far been missing on
dancefloors – a line-up of DHs dedicated to playing dirty electro
house.

So that’s your Saturdays catered for. But what about Fridays?

Every Friday at Gatecrasher Seven will be dedicated to all things r ‘n’ b and rap, with club night Pashion.

The night plays house to some of the biggest names in r ‘n’ b and
hip hop, including Trevor Nelson, Tim Westwood, Mista Jam and Shortee
Blitz.

May 2 will see ex-Blue singer Simon Webbe perform, followed by So Solid Crew’s Harvey on May 23.

But it’s not just the weekend crowd who are catered for.

Monday hosts Chic Beat, with some of the biggest name DJs in funky
house and electro and on Wednesdays, new Japanese themed night Disuko
will be adding something new to the Leeds scene.

Over the years, Gatecrasher has brought big name acts to Leeds.

Its Discotheque night, launched in 2005, has seen Roger Sanchez,
Bob Sinclar, Basement Jaxx, Paul Oakenfold, Pete Tong, Boy George and
Roni Size perform.

Their presence has helped put Gatecrasher on the clubbing map. Not
content with that, Gatecrasher has entered the large-scale event
market, with Summer Sound System – the award winning festival now runs
for two days with 20 live acts and 200 DJs. Headliners have included
The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Mark Ronson and Hot Chip.
