Duncan James looks pleased with himself as he shows off toned physiqueFormer Blue star Duncan James couldn’t stop admiring his new toned
physique as he enjoyed a holiday with long-time friend Tara
Palmer-Tomkinson.
The star, who is set to appear as a judge on Channel 5 talent show
Don’t Stop Believing, looked pleased with himself as he showed off his
firm abs while splashing around in the sea in Bali.
James, 32, recently finished a stint in the critically acclaimed West
End show Legally Blonde but judging by these pictures, he’s been
spending most of his spare time at the gym.
His new body is a far cry from the slightly chubby figure he adopted
just four years ago after apparently piling on the pounds following the
break-up of boyband Blue.
James, who revealed that he is bisexual last year, has previously
spoken of the deep depression he felt at his confusion over his
sexuality combined with the death of his grandparents, a former
girlfriend becoming pregnant with his baby, and the end of Blue.
‘For a long time my head was so mixed up I didn’t know what was going on,’ he said.
‘The band were so huge and we were everywhere. I didn’t quite know who
I was and I didn’t have a moment to sit down and figure it out.
‘And when Blue split up it really hit me. I was put on
anti-depressants. I would go to see my psychiatrist and I would be in
there crying and shaking.
‘Then I’d walk out and people would say: “Hi Duncan, can I have your autograph?”’
Raised a strict Catholic, he feared telling his mother and family the truth about his sexuality.
‘My grandparents were very strict Catholics,’ he says. ‘They did
everything my father would have done: love me, support me, drive me to
school, bath me, feed me.
‘They were insistent about me going to church. I was an altar boy and
it was drummed into me: “If you don’t do what you are supposed to do,
something bad will happen.”
‘I had Catholic guilt for many years and I still have it.’
