Welcome to this week's blog and what a nerve wrecking show it was!
The show started off with a beautiful performance, as always, by Jayne and Chris dancing to "Valerie". I did spot a tiny slip up from the World Champions which was very unusual as they are 99.9 percent flawless, so it looked like this was gonna be the start of a very interesting show!
The required element this week was an unassisted jump and I can't even begin to tell you just how hard that is.
First up was Fred and Zaraah. The whole routine from start to finish looked very uncomfortable. Zaraah's skating lines looked unfinished, and there were lots of mistakes. Jason Gardiner commented that her facial expressions were painted on and she had no elevation in her lifts which I totally agree with. I have been a big supporter of Zaraah so was gutted to see such a drop in her standards this far into the competition.
However, on the contrary, next up was Greg Rusedski , who for me had a fantastic week. Greg had a huge point to prove as Jason slated him last week. He came out with a fighting spirit, full of energy and life. He executed his moves, lifts and nearly all his jumps deftly and to his highest standard yet. As a supporter of Greg, I was so pleased to see him in such a good positive place. Go Greg, go!
Mr Gareth Skates was next up on the ice looking back to his cheeky self (which is so refreshing to see). Maria and Gareth did me proud yet again. Gareth's arms, lines and footwork are fantastic and his skating ability is spot on. OK, there were a few mistakes, granted, but being the performer he is, it was hard to notice and the cheeky grin on both his and Maria's faces allows them to get away with almost anything. I'm sure they'll make the final, so keep doing what you're doing guys and keep that confidence growing, Gareth.
Linda and Daniel performed next and although Linda ended up leaving this week, I thought she skated very well and did her required element beautifully. I must say though, their outfits were not very flattering plus Linda found it hard to grab on to Dan during one of their lifts.
Every week though Linda has improved and I'm gutted to see her leave. She will be missed and I salute you both for being a great partnership. I wonder if Dan will move out of her house now? He looked quite comfy in her big jacuzzi bubble bath!
Next up was Chris and my first thought was 'is he crazy trying an axel jump?'. It's hard enough jumping half a turn let alone a whole 1.5 turn in mid air, but the boy wonder pulled it off. Top marks for having the balls to try it Chris. I hate to say this, but you're starting to make Frankie look like the celeb here and you're becoming the professional!
Even though I was really impressed with Chris's performance this week, and he got a great score of 27, I was SO happy to see Suzanne Shaw get top marks with a clean sweap of 5.5's beating the boy wonder with a 27.5.
Suzanne exudes confidence and sex appeal, proving she's got that X factor above and beyond most of the other contestants in this year's show. You could take the ice away and it would still be an enigmatic performance. Suzanne is technical, she executes accurately every time and still manages to perform making her my front runner this year.
Did I mention she looks great too?! All she's got to do is stay focused and injury-free and I think she'll have it in the bag.
It's getting tough now though and there's no room for error.....damn, I cant wait for next week!
Until then....
