Hello and welcome to my Dancing On Ice blog for the semi final!
On Saturday night I went to my best mate Rita’s birthday party and ended up staying at my mum’s house in Hertfordshire as she lives nearby. I woke up and thought, “I’m just round the corner from where Dancing On Ice is filmed”, and suddenly got a real urge to want to go to the semi final!
I rang my friend Caroline who works on Dancing On Ice and she managed to get me two last minute tickets for the show, which I have to say I was made up about. I got ready and went down to where Dancing On Ice is filmed and hurried backstage to see everyone and wish them luck.
All the contestants were so nervous, knowing that this was their last chance to make it into that all important grand final. They’d all been rehearsing non-stop to perfect their routines and you could really feel the tension in the air.
After going through it all last year, I knew only too well how their stomachs must have been feeling. The semi final really is the most nerve wracking week of the whole series, as it’s absolutely gutting to crash out just before the final.
I was so sad for Gareth and Maria. I really wanted Maria to get to the final again this year after reaching it with me last year. I think the pair both did an exceptional job on the ice on Sunday night and I really do believe they were marked wrongly and unfairly.
The judges gave them way too low scores, which really frustrated me sitting in the audience. Gareth skated so well and put on a fantastic performance, proving once and for all that his title of “Gareth Skates” is well deserved. At least he went out in a blaze of glory, reminding everyone just what a great entertainer he is.
I thought this week was the best Zaraah has ever skated and she really came out fighting. She was definitely the better skater in the skate off, so ultimately Zaraah did deserve to stay over Gareth.
I totally agree with Jason’s comments that this show is all about giving a performance worthy of a finalist, and Zaraah totally had the edge over Gareth. So surprisingly for many, me included, Zaraah danced her way into the final.
For me though Suzanne stole the night. She was sensational and I really, really, really want her to win! She has come so far and has been on an incredible journey.
Chris put on a fantastic performance, but I hope people keep in mind that he has skated before this competition, so has had an unfair advantage right from the beginning. He is amazing to watch, but Suzanne deserves the votes, so please pick up the phone for her on Sunday.
I start my weekly Capital Radio show this Sunday night so I’ll be watching the final on my portable telly in the studio whilst I’m live on air. Some of the judges are going to ring me live on the show during the break as well to fill me in on the backstage gossip, so if you’re near a radio or on the internet, tune in for the low-down.
See you next week for my final blog (sob) and good luck to Zaraah, Chris and Suzanne on Sunday!
